Anxious to see the release's day (;P)
During the event PlayStation Meeting 2011 held in Japan, Sony Computer Entertainment announced the Next Generation Portable (NGP), codenamed the company's next handheld, which comes to the PSP to succeed, as was speculated long ago.
According to Kaz Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, the NGP is scheduled for late 2011. The unit has similar format to the PSP 3000, but intends to end complaints from players replacing the PSP's directional by two analog sticks called "Micro Analog Stick."
The NGP has a touch screen multitouch 5 inches in the rear and two cameras, one front and one rear. In addition to these innovations, the "PSP 2" has internal gyro and GPS. All these features can be used for games or applications that will be available on the PlayStation Store.
Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, said the device has the processing power equivalent to the PlayStation 3 and should receive several sets of famous franchises such as "Hot Shots Golf," "Killzone," LittleBigPlanet, "Resistance" and "Uncharted".
The device will connect to the 3G network connectivity for online similar to the iPad. The touch screen is kind of OLED, 960 × 544 pixel resolution and consume less energy, having a level higher contrast than LCDs of the ordinary, let alone the wider musical vision.
Besides having internal memory, the NGP will have cartridges called "New Game Media, also temporary name, the company said. Also the notebook is compatible with all PSP games from Sony's online store.
According to Sony, the notebook will have several online features and will therefore be equipped with Wi-Fi and 3G to download games from PlayStation Network, for example. Among the features of the network is possible to collect trophies in the same way that happens in games for PlayStation 3.
